The Three Ring Waterford Dutch Gag works by applying pressure to the poll. The amount of pressure and leverage is controlled by the rider and the use of the 3 rings; the lower the ring the more leverage and control the rider will have.
The Waterford Mouth is a multiple jointed bit with a chain type mouthpiece that has ball shaped links. As the Waterford mouthpiece has many links, it is considered a severe bit as the pressure is distributed over the tongue and bars of the mouth.
Should ideally be used with two reins or Pelham roundings.
The 5" and smaller sizes of this bit come with shorter cheeks to ensure the bit remains in proportion with the smaller head.
Mouthpiece thickness: 18mm. Cheek height: 150mm (4.5", 5"), 180mm (5.5", 6").
