The Shires 3 Ring Dutch Gag (also known as a Continental, Bubble or Elevator bit) is a highly versatile leverage bit engineered for strong horses that pull, lean or challenge the rider's contact. It features a central main snaffle ring flanked by one smaller loop above and two smaller loops below. it works by raising the bit in the horse's mouth in a similar way to a Cheltenham Gag but without the same severity.

- Cheek Height: Stretches between 150mm and 160mm for smaller sizes (4.5" and 5"), scaling up to 180mm for larger builds (5.5" and 6").
- The 5" and smaller sizes of this bit have smaller rings to ensure the bit remains in proportion.
How it Works:
- Adjustable Mechanical Leverage: The bridle's cheekpieces attach directly to the isolated top loop. The rider can then clip their reins into any of the lower three rings. Moving the reins down to the lowest ring acts as a longer lever, greatly multiplying the rider's physical hand aids.
- Poll & Lift Action: When tension is applied to the lower rings, the bit rotates forward. This simultaneous action creates downward pressure across the poll (forcing a lower head carriage) while sliding the mouthpiece upward in the mouth to elevate the front end. This prevents the horse from leaning its full weight onto the rider's hands.
This bit is not legal for British Dressage (BD) or FEI Competitions (Note: The bit is fully legal for Showjumping and Cross Country phases under British Eventing and British Showjumping rules, where a two-rein system or bit roundings are highly recommended to avoid sudden, harsh bit rotation)
