The Shires Flat Ring Jointed Eggbutt Snaffle Bit is a traditional, single-jointed bit designed for a slimmer profile. It provides precise, direct communication and is particularly well-suited for horses with smaller mouths or thicker tongues.
Key Specifications:
- High-quality durable stainless steel (rust-resistant, tasteless and easy to clean)
- Mouthpiece Thickness: Scales by size to maintain proper mouth anatomy (15mm for 4" to 5.75", 17mm for 6" sizes)
- Cheek Ring Dimensions: Built proportionally (75mm height for 5" to 6")
How it Works:
- Refined, Slim Mouthpiece: Because it is slightly thinner than a standard 16mm or 18mm snaffle, it leaves more room inside the mouth. This makes is highly comfortable for horses with small mouths or large tongues. However, a thinner profile distributes rein pressure over a smaller area, making it slightly more distinct and stronger in its action.
- Eggbutt Stability: This fixed, flared eggbutt rings keep the mouthpiece perfectly stable across the tongue. This lack of loose movement eliminates the risk of lip pinching and gives green or anxious horses a predictable, confidence-building feel to stretch into the contact.
- Nutcracker Action: The single central joint applies a classic nutcracker action across the bars of the mouth and the sides of the tongue when rein pressure is taken up. This clear lateral pressure helps refine steering and encourages a horse to balance off its forehand.
This bit is fully legal for Dressage under British Dressage (BD) and international competition rules.
