The Shires Equikind Peanut Two Ring Gag is a double-jointed gag designed for horses that require extra poll pressure and leverage without a harsh mouth action. It features an apple-flavoured, high-tech plastic mouthpiece moulded over a stainless steel core. This design is warm to the touch, highly flexible, and exceptionally gentle on the horse's tongue and bars, making it ideal for young or sensitive horses that can get strong or head-high during jumping and fast work
Key Specifications:
- Mouthpiece Thickness: 18mm profile.
- Cheek Height: 145mm for 5.5"
- Mouthpiece Material: Flexible, lightweight, apple-flavoured high-tech plastic moulded over a stainless steel core.
- Cheekpiece Material: High-grade, rust-resistant stainless steel.
How it Works:
- Warm and Flexible Contact: The EquiKind plastic material is significantly warmer to the touch than cold metal bits. This encourages immediate acceptance and relaxation in sensitive or cold-backed horses.
- Palatable Salivation: The infused apple flavoring releases a subtle scent and taste that naturally stimulates salivation and encourages active mouthing.
- Nutcracker Elimination: The double-jointed central "peanut" lozenge contours smoothly over the horse's tongue. This completely removes the painful upward "nutcracker" squeeze on the palate caused by single-jointed bits.
- Customisable Leverage: The two-ring cheek design allows for adaptable rein placements. Attaching a rein to the lower loop creates downward poll pressure, which helps lower the horse's head carriage and enhances braking power
This bit is strictly forbidden in British Dressage (BD) and FEI competition.
Usage Tips:
- Two-Rein System: Ideally, it should be ridden with two reins. Attach one rein to the large main snaffle ring for direct contact, and the second to the lower ring for leverage when needed.
- Using Roundings: If you prefer riding with a single rein, you should use bit roundings to bridge the main ring and the lower loop, maintaining a balanced and stable contact.
