The Cheltenham Gag has Eggbutt cheeks with holes in which can accept a Gag Cheek. The Gag Cheek is a type of extended cheek piece that passes through the holes in the gag bit, with a ring at the base for the reins to fasten to.
The Cheltenham Gag uses poll pressure to encourage the horse to lower the head becoming round giving an outline and gives great help with breaks, and is normally used on strong horses.
The Cheltenham Gag raises the bit up in the horse's mouth encouraging the horse to lift up off the forehand and ride from the quarters. This bit also features a Single Jointed mouthpiece, which creates a 'nutcracker' action, applying pressure to the tongue and the bars of the mouth.
Two sets of reins are recommended to help stop the horse leaning on the bit or for when more control is needed.
Cheeks available separately.
Mouthpiece thickness: 14mm. Cheek height: 75mm.
