The Korsteel Thick Mouth French Link Loose Ring Snaffle (commonly referred to as the Korsteel Training Snaffle) is a very mild, double-jointed bit. It is engineered specifically for everyday schooling, introducing young or green horses to the bit, and teaching horses to maintain a soft contact without leaning on the rider's hands.
Key Specifications:
- High-quality stainless steel (rust-resistant, durable and easy to clean)
- Mouthpiece Thickness: Features a thick profile along the bars that tapers towards the centre.
How it Works:
- Pressure Dispersion: The defining feature is the thick outer sections sitting on the bars of the mouth. Because the metal takes up a larger surface area, the pressure from rein aids is diluted and spread gently, making it a incredibly forgiving.
- Tapered French Link: The mouthpiece tapers down toward the central, contoured French link plate. This specific waist design lies flat over the contours of the tongue without creating a harsh ridge or pressure like a Dr. Bristol, maximising tongue comfort.
- No Nutcracker Action: Being double-jointed, the bit 'drapes' across the tongue and bars. It cannot collapse upward in to a sharp 'v' shape, entirely preventing the bit from pinching the tongue or bumping the roof of the horse's mouth.
- Loose Ring Mobility: The loose rings allow the mouthpiece to slide independently of the reins. This fluid action lets the horse position the bit comfortably with its tongue. It also provides and immediate release for pressure the second the rider softens their hands, while discouraging the horse from grabbing the bit and leaning.
This bit is fully legal for British Dressage (BD) and FEI competition.
