The Elico Loose Ring Fulmer Jointed Snaffle is a traditional, mild training bit that combines the precise steering guidance of a full cheek bit with the fluid communication of a loose ring. Unlike standard full cheek bits where the rings are rigidly fixed, a Fulmer bit features completely independent loose rings mounted on the outer side of long cheek shanks. This makes it a popular choice for young horses, green horses, or animals undergoing retraining, as it provides a clear turning signal without allowing the horse to heavily lean or fix on the rider's hand.

How it Works:
- Enhanced Lateral Steering: The long vertical full cheek shanks rest flush against the outside of the horse's face. When the rider applies a turning aid, the opposite cheekpiece pushes gently against the horse's muzzle, providing a positive structural reinforcement that prevents the bit from being dragged through the mouth.
- Prevention of Leaning: Because the rein connects to an independent loose ring rather than a fixed shank, the bit remains highly mobile inside the mouth. This fluid movement prevents the horse from taking a rigid hold, clamping down, or leaning its forehand weight onto the rider's hands.
- Traditional Jointed Action: The single-jointed mouthpiece collapses into a classic "nutcracker" action when rein pressure is applied. This shifts pressure onto the bars of the mouth and the outer edges of the tongue, occasionally making contact with the horse's palate to encourage a prompt response.
- Optional Fulmer Keepers: While it can be ridden loose, it is highly recommended to use this bit with leather Fulmer loops (keepers) that attach the upper shanks to the bridle's cheekpieces. This holds the shanks perfectly vertical, adds a very mild amount of poll pressure, and keeps the mouthpiece stable.
